Production and Operations roles explained

Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) oversees all technical aspects of a game studio, including the long-term strategy for tools, technology, and infrastructure.

As a CTO, you’ll lead the technical direction of the studio, making high-level decisions about game engines, development tools, and technical processes. You’ll work closely with department leads to ensure that the studio’s technical needs are met, from performance optimisation to server infrastructure.

Many CTOs have extensive experience in software engineering, game development, or IT, with a strong understanding of both technical challenges and leadership.

For this role, you should be passionate about technology and innovation. You’ll need to lead technical teams and make strategic decisions that impact the studio’s future.

Your CV should highlight your experience in leading technical teams, with examples of how you’ve shaped a studio’s technical strategy.
