Quality Assurance roles explained
Playtester
A Playtester is responsible for playing games during their development stages to identify issues related to gameplay, balance, and player experience.
As a Playtester, you’ll be tasked with playing through levels or game features to identify bugs, glitches, or design flaws. You’ll provide feedback to developers about what works well and what could be improved, ensuring that the game is fun, functional, and polished before its release. You’ll need to be thorough, patient, and have a keen eye for detail.
Most Playtesters do not need formal qualifications, but having a passion for games, an analytical mindset, and good communication skills are essential. Experience in game testing or development can be beneficial.
For this role, you should be someone who loves games, enjoys problem-solving, and has the patience to play through repetitive sequences to spot issues. A critical mind and the ability to give clear, constructive feedback are key.
Your CV or application should highlight any experience you have testing games, even if informally, and demonstrate your understanding of game mechanics and design.
