Production and Operations roles explained
Specialist Lawyer
A Specialist Lawyer in the games industry handles legal matters, including contracts, intellectual property (IP) rights, licensing, and regulatory compliance specific to game development and publishing.
As a Specialist Lawyer, you’ll provide legal counsel to game studios, ensuring that their business practices, contracts, and game content comply with legal standards. You may work on areas such as employment law, copyright, and the negotiation of publishing agreements, making sure that the studio is legally protected.
Many Specialist Lawyers have law degrees with a focus on intellectual property, media law, or entertainment law. Experience in the gaming industry or tech-focused law is valuable.
For this role, you should be someone who enjoys navigating complex legal challenges, with excellent analytical and communication skills. You’ll need to stay updated on laws and regulations that impact the gaming industry, such as copyright law and international licensing agreements.
Your portfolio or CV should highlight your legal experience in intellectual property, contract negotiation, or media law, with specific examples of work in the gaming or entertainment industry.
