Production and Operations roles explained
Chief People Officer
A Chief People Officer (CPO) ensures that the people working within a game studio are supported, engaged, and thriving. This executive-level role is focused on creating a positive company culture and managing the overall human resources strategy.
As the CPO, you’ll oversee all HR operations, including recruitment, talent development, employee engagement, and company-wide initiatives that promote well-being and career growth. You’ll work closely with the studio’s leadership team to ensure the company’s values are reflected in its day-to-day operations, helping to create an inclusive and productive workplace.
Most CPOs have extensive experience in HR and leadership, often with a degree in human resource management, business administration, or organisational psychology. You’ll need to demonstrate a deep understanding of both HR practices and the specific needs of a game studio, which includes fostering a creative environment while also ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations.
For this job, you should be passionate about people with excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. You’ll need to be adept at managing diverse teams, fostering a strong studio culture, and supporting both personal and professional development within the company.
As with other senior roles, this position is highly competitive, and your career history should reflect your ability to lead people-focused strategies in complex, fast-paced environments.
