Design roles explained
Game Designer
A game designer creates the rules, mechanics, and systems that shape how a game is played. They’re responsible for crafting the player experience, ensuring that the game is fun, challenging, and engaging.
As a Games Designer, you’ll work closely with programmers, artists, and writers to design gameplay mechanics, levels, and systems that align with the overall vision of the game. Whether you’re working on puzzles, combat, or story-driven quests, your job is to make sure the game is enjoyable and balanced for players.
Many game designers have degrees in game design or related fields, but experience and creativity are just as important. You’ll need a strong portfolio that showcases your design skills, including examples of games, levels, or mechanics you’ve created.
For this role, you should be passionate about games, have a creative mind, and enjoy solving design challenges. You’ll need to think from the player’s perspective, ensuring that the game is fun, fair, and rewarding.
Since competition is fierce, your portfolio should showcase a variety of game designs, demonstrating your ability to create unique and engaging gameplay experiences.
