Production and Operations roles explained
Game Director
A Game Director is responsible for overseeing the entire creative and production process of a game, making sure that the project achieves its overall vision and goals.
As a Game Director, you’ll work with all departments—design, art, programming, audio, and production—to ensure that the game’s direction stays on course. You’ll make high-level decisions about the game’s narrative, gameplay, and art style while also ensuring the project is delivered on time and within budget.
Many Game Directors have extensive experience in game design or production, often starting as a Lead Designer or Producer. A strong portfolio showcasing completed games is key.
For this role, you need strong leadership, creativity, and decision-making skills. You must be able to maintain a clear vision and guide a large team through the challenges of game development.
Your portfolio should demonstrate your ability to lead entire projects from concept to completion, with examples of your role in shaping a game’s creative direction.
