Production and Operations roles explained
Games Producer
A Games Producer manages the development process, ensuring that the project stays on track, on budget, and meets quality expectations. They act as the bridge between the development team and other stakeholders.
As a Games Producer, you’ll coordinate between various departments, from art and programming to marketing and QA, ensuring that the project is progressing according to schedule. You’ll be responsible for creating timelines, managing resources, and troubleshooting any issues that arise during development. You’ll also work closely with the creative and technical leads to ensure the game meets its vision.
Many game producers come from project management or game design backgrounds, often with degrees in game development, business, or project management. Experience managing complex projects is essential.
For this role, you should be organised, a good communicator, and able to solve problems on the fly. You’ll need to balance the needs of the development team with the goals of the publisher or stakeholders, ensuring that everyone stays aligned.
Since this role is critical to the success of a game, your portfolio should demonstrate your ability to manage projects from start to finish, showcasing examples where you kept a project on time and within budget.
