Art roles explained
Storyboard Assistant
A Storyboard Assistant helps create visual representations of game scenes and sequences, working closely with narrative designers, directors, and artists to bring the story to life.
As a Storyboard Assistant, you’ll create sketches or digital storyboards that outline the progression of a game’s cinematic scenes, cutscenes, or action sequences. You’ll help plan the pacing, camera angles, and key visual moments, ensuring that the storyboard aligns with the game’s narrative goals.
Many Storyboard Assistants have backgrounds in animation, fine arts, or film production, with strong drawing skills and experience in visual storytelling being essential.
For this role, you should be creative, detail-oriented, and able to communicate visually. You’ll need to collaborate with a variety of team members and adapt your work to fit the artistic direction of the project.
Your portfolio should showcase examples of storyboards you’ve worked on, highlighting your ability to communicate a scene visually and your understanding of pacing and framing.
