Art roles explained
UI Designer
A UI Designer (User Interface Designer) creates the visual interfaces that players interact with, such as menus, HUDs (heads-up displays), and buttons, ensuring that they are clear, intuitive, and visually appealing.
As a UI Designer, you’ll work on designing the look and feel of the game’s interface, from main menus and in-game controls to inventory systems and dialogue boxes. Your goal is to make sure the interface is easy to navigate and aligns with the overall aesthetic of the game. You’ll use design tools like Adobe XD, Figma, or Photoshop and work closely with UX designers to create a seamless user experience.
Many UI Designers have backgrounds in graphic design, digital media, or game design, with a strong portfolio of visual design work.
For this role, you should have strong artistic skills, an understanding of user flow, and an ability to create interfaces that are both functional and beautiful. Attention to detail is key, as your work directly impacts how players interact with the game.
Your portfolio should include examples of UI elements you’ve designed, showcasing your ability to create clean, intuitive, and visually appealing interfaces for games.
