Design roles explained
UX Designer
A UX Designer (User Experience Designer) focuses on the player’s experience, ensuring that the game’s interface, controls, and flow are intuitive and easy to navigate.
As a UX Designer, you’ll conduct user research, create wireframes, and test different gameplay and UI elements to ensure that players can easily interact with the game. You’ll focus on improving the user journey, ensuring that menus, systems, and controls are accessible and enjoyable. You’ll work closely with UI designers, developers, and playtesters to make adjustments based on player feedback.
Many UX Designers have degrees in interaction design, psychology, or human-computer interaction, with experience in user research and testing.
For this role, you should be someone who loves understanding player behavior and enjoys improving how users interact with games. You’ll need strong analytical skills and the ability to design systems that enhance the overall player experience.
Your portfolio should include case studies of UX projects, demonstrating how you’ve improved player experience through thoughtful design and testing.
