Community and Marketing roles explained
Community Manager
A Community Manager is the bridge between a game studio and its players. They engage with the community, foster positive relationships, and keep players informed and excited about the game.
As a Community Manager, you’ll be responsible for creating social media posts, responding to player feedback, and building engagement through online communities like Discord, Reddit, or Twitter. You’ll also manage player feedback, passing on key insights to the development team and helping to shape updates and patches.
Many Community Managers have a degree in communications, public relations, or marketing, but it’s essential to have experience managing online communities. Strong writing and communication skills are crucial, as is a deep understanding of the game and its player base.
For this job, you should be someone who enjoys interacting with players, solving problems, and creating engaging content. You'll be the face of the studio, so you'll need to be calm under pressure, patient, and always ready to provide great customer service.
Since competition is fierce, a portfolio showcasing your experience managing communities, moderating forums, and engaging players will help you stand out.
