Community and Marketing roles explained
Games Journalist
A Games Journalist writes about video games, covering everything from game reviews and news to industry trends and interviews with developers. Their work informs and engages the gaming community.
As a Games Journalist, you’ll need to stay up to date with the latest releases, industry developments, and gaming culture. You’ll write articles, reviews, and features for magazines, websites, or video content, often offering critique and insight into both gameplay and industry trends. Strong research skills and an ability to write clearly and engagingly are essential for success in this role.
Most Games Journalists have a background in journalism, communications, or English, but a deep passion for gaming and excellent writing skills are key. Building a portfolio of published articles or game reviews will help you break into the industry.
For this role, you should love writing and talking about games. You’ll need to be curious, analytical, and able to present information in a way that’s informative and entertaining to readers or viewers.
As with other media roles, competition is high. Your portfolio should include a range of articles, reviews, and interviews showcasing your voice and deep knowledge of gaming.
