Dundee welcomes its first Saturday Club for Game Design

We are thrilled to announce that in partnership with Dundee and Angus College, we have launched Scotland's first free, National Saturday Club games design session on Saturday mornings for local 13-16-year-olds.
Across the UK, National Saturday Club provides free weekly opportunities at local colleges, universities and Museums to develop a wide range of new skills. Alongside discovering new talents and making friends, attendees are provided information about further education and potential careers to help them understand what opportunities are out there for them. Club types range from arts & crafts to science & engineering, to provide something for everyone.
From the initial conception of ideas to a fully playable game, our Dundee Saturday Club group take a deep dive into the many layers of game-making. The 20-week course will enable attendees to build their own game to submit to the national BAFTA Young Game Designer competition. Club members also take part in national events including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs nationwide exhibit their work in a public exhibition – all for free!

“At the Games Design Saturday Club, the young people attending will get to learn a little bit of everything. From 2D and 3D art, to programming in Unity, the aim is to teach them the game development pipeline, from concept to release, to broaden their horizons, which ultimately presents them with an array of future careers in the games industry.” - Scott Cambell, Into Games Dundee Learning Lead
At Into Games, we’ve been hard at work in our six regional waypoints to create accessible pathways to developing game development skills. A Waypoint is a regional network of game studios, educators, and grassroots organisations that have come together to create a regional commitment to developing underrepresented talent from working-class and low-income backgrounds. All stakeholders believe in a games sector that is more reflective of the UK population and will be working hard on practical projects - just like the Dundee Saturday Club - across the region to effect change.
We can’t wait to share more about our attendees’ amazing creations at the Dundee Saturday Club for games. If you’re local to the area, we're looking for games sector professionals who might like to volunteer on the odd Saturday to help deliver these free game dev sessions. No prep needed, just a few hours of your time and energy to help guide some brilliant young people. Get in touch today at hello@intogames.org.
