Games in the City Festival is taking place at Staffordshire University London Campus from Monday 11th December until Friday 15th September, combining talks, workshops and panels to help you learn everything you need to know to build a career in games. All activities throughout the week have been organised by Into Games to support your journey into the games industry.

Here’s what you can expect from the week’s activities;

Games in the City Jam

A week-long game jam with a brief created by local studio Spilt Milk Studios, based on their upcoming title Trash Goblin! Get access to a talk from a leading games producer on nailing your game jam project management and join a final pitching session on Friday where you'll get live feedback from the studio themselves!

  • Friday 15th December 15:00 - Final Pitches with the Studio
  • Space for game development will be available all week on-campus

Tuesday 12th December (in-person)

Live Dev Workshops (Knowledge 1)

Two live follow-along workshops from industry experts where you can learn the workflows of industry pros working in Game Design and Concept Art today. Anna Hollinrake, Art Director of new indie studio Electric Saint and previously Principal Artist at Mediatonic, and Mark Fraser, CEO of Aero Astro Arts will both be running workshops on 12th December. Limited spaces available.

  • But I'm Bad At Backgrounds! Demystifying Environment Concept Art for Games with Anna Hollinrake 10:30-12:00
  • 3D Modelling Industry Workflow with Mark Fraser 13:00-14:30

Both workshops will take place in Knowledge 1

Games in the City Talks and Networking (Arena)

A series of ten-minute talks from industry professionals covering multiple game dev and careers questions, with space for networking with industry pros and fellow students throughout. Finish off the afternoon with a panel from leading games recruiters on what you can do to prepare for a career in games. All students are invited!

Wednesday 13th December

Meet the Recruiters with Ubisoft (Virtual)

An opportunity to meet virtually with a AAA games industry recruiter from Ubisoft UK. Ask them your burning questions about getting hired in games today and get tips and advice for nailing your application and interview. Ubisoft are on the lookout for entry level talent, so this is a great opportunity to meet an actively hiring studio! Limited spaces available.

  • Meet Craig Charsley Technical Recruiter at Ubisoft 13:00-15:00

Thursday 14th December

CV and Cover Letter Workshop with Into Games (Virtual)

An interactive workshop from Into Games, where you'll build your very own professional-level CV and Cover Letter using LinkedIn. If you don't have an up-to-date CV or just want to know how to improve your own, this is the perfect opportunity to learn exactly what recruiters expect from a great applicant.

  • The workshop will take place between 11:00-13:00

Using your game dev skills in other industries panel (Virtual)

Join a virtual panel with experts from VFX, Virtual Production, Galleries & Museums, Cinematics and the NHS, to learn how you can use your game development technical skills outside of the games industry!

This panel is perfect for those thinking about their placement year, and are looking for options to use their skills in the workplace.

  • This panel will take place between 15:00-16:00

Friday 15th December

Game Jam Pitching Session with Spilt Milk Studios

Join an in-person session where students taking part in the Games in the City Jam will pitc their working prototype/game ideas to the developers at Spilt Milk Studios.
