Graphics Programmer 

Game graphics can be a thing of beauty, allowing a player to feel truly immersed in another world. They can add another layer to the gaming experience with micro details that make all the difference, like making water glisten and flames sparkle.

It’s the technical job of a Graphics Programmer to bring games to life by applying a working knowledge of game engines, maths, rendering and coding.

They must be able to identify obstacles and to problem-solve creatively. Graphic Programmers often work alongside other programmers, designers, and artists, so the ability to work well with others is a must-have skill in this role.

YOUR LEARNING JOURNEY

Most people working as a Graphics Programmer have a degree in physics, engineering, games or computer science. Above all, you should be someone who loves technology, coding and learning new skills. 

As a professional, you work alongside artists to program the visuals for the game. Graphics Programming is a very technical discipline and so a wide range of coding expertise is important. The most popular game creation engines use the coding languages, C++ (Unreal) or C# (Unity), but languages like Java and HTML5, are also used depending on the game type. Working in the games industry is highly competitive and you’ll need to make sure your CV stands out to employers and course leaders. As a Graphics Programmer, your CV should outline previous experience, demonstrating a range of programming skills and achievements.
